A BEGINNER’S GUIDE TO HAMMOCK CAMPING

A BEGINNER’S GUIDE TO HAMMOCK CAMPING

What is Hammock Camping

Hammock camping is a lot like tent camping. You still have to bring your food and cooking tools. The only real difference is that you will be bringing a hammock instead of camping tents for your sleeping arrangements.

This can make a big difference when it comes to hiking to your camping site. A hammock will generally weigh a lot less than even the best camping tents. It will also take up a lot less room.

Based on that alone, if hammock camping works, it is a far superior option compared to bringing a bulky tent.

On top of that, hammocks are a lot easier to set up than tents. That means that you will also save time and effort setting them up. A great camping hammock can create a better camping experience.

Common Misconceptions about Hammock Camping

1. It's Unsafe

Some people think of hammocks as flimsy things. To be frank, the technology necessary to create sturdy hammocks has been around for a long time. If you want a solid hammock, it is as simple as buying a quality item.

2. It Makes It Diffcult To Sleep

Between the warmth and comfort that hammocks can provide, they can often help you to get better sleep than you would in a tent on the ground. It can be incredibly soothing to go to sleep while enjoying the beautiful night sky. And they will save you a lot of stress because of how easy they are to transport and set up.

3. Hammocks Are Complicated To Set Up

Setting up hammocks is actually far simpler than setting up tents. There are far fewer pieces to get in the right place. That also means that there are fewer pieces that can end up breaking and requiring replacement.

Setting up a hammock can be as simple as finding a couple of ropes around a couple of trees and attaching the ropes to holders on the hammock.

4. Hammocks Have A Limited Weight Capacity

If you are worried about hammock weight capacity,  don't worry, LOVE STORY's camping hammock has a maximum capacity of 500 lbs.

Install a Hammock Camping

When you get to your campsite, do a site check and investigate your area for where the trees are. You’re looking for a good location for your hammock, so watch for shade, sunlight, and clear ground beneath.

You need sturdy trees that will hold your weight. Don’t use saplings or dead trees; these will likely break under any sort of weight, no matter how light you might be.

Once you've selected a fully sturdy tree, wrap the tree strap around the tree, pass the strap through the large loop; Then according to your favored distance, wrap many times as you needed, and pull tightly; Finally unfold the hammock, and buckle the carabiner into the suitable loop of the strap.

Benefits of Hammock Camping

Once you've wrapped your head around trying out hammock camping, you'll begin to see the many advantages it brings to your outdoor experience.

  • Lightweight and Portable
  • Easy Set Up
  • Better Sleep & CAMPING EXPERIENCE

Now the hammock is in back yard most the time and it works as intended. The product came without instruction and is easy to setup. But to setup properly (height, net hook, etc) takes several tries. Overall a good product. A few more hook at the side so allow extra string to keep net in sharp will make this product better.

Alexandrea,

Great hammock just wish the net was separate or zipped from both sides.

katiemcveigh1,

We used this hammock while camping with our sons Scouts BSA Troop. The camp had a set up for hammocks, so we didn’t need to use the tree straps. It worked as it should and didn’t feel like it would break easily. Quality fabric and well-done seams.

betseysetsy,

I’ve never used a hammock before and bought this one bc it came in a small bag with everything I thought I would need and it’s perfect! The net is a perfect addition and I highly recommend if you are a bug magnet and prone to lots of bug bites. Has an inside pouch for your phone, book, sunglasses, snacks, etc. which is super nice. Very durable.

Kristen,

Ordered two of these for my boys for a beach trip. All the kids slept outside under the house (stilts) for an entire week and they loved it!! The net kept bugs off and they were very comfortable…they even choose to hang out in them during the daytime too instead of regular furniture. I can’t speak for weight as the heaviest kid is 135 lbs. our tallest is 5’9. No one complained!

Miss Mari,

The Hammock is surprisingly lightweight. But works very well. My teen daughter took it to camp with her all summer and it’s working great. When we first got it all my nieces and nephews were over enjoying it. Although it’s designed for an adult it has never been empty long enough for an adult to get in it.

Elizabeth Caudill,

I’m an avid tent camper and wanted to check this hammock system out for consideration. For the money, I was impressed with the quality of the hammock construction and accessories. I decided to stick with my tents and returned this item, but having some experience in recognizing good camping gear, can recommend this for your consideration for the price point and quality

Jessica Galvin,

One thing to note is that I recommend spreading the hammock as far apart as possible, so it sees the most amount of slack as possible. This way, if you plan to sleep in it at night, you aren’t sleeping in a curved shaped (hurts your back).

Hunter,

Is it a hassle to move the netting out of the way when not in use?

kevimao7,

How does the mosquito net attach to the hammock? How does the net attach to the tree?

Ciara Romine,

Pro tip: Tighter the hammock, the more “stretched out” you’ll be, or the more horizontal. If you don’t keep the hammock tight, you’ll be scrunched up in a cocoon. Obvious to some, but took me a few nights to realize this.

Jennifer Chinch,

I’m 6’3”/4” and it was long enough for me.

samio,

I’m 6ft 2" can I stretch out completely in this hammock ?

Brianna Crumpton,

I needed a new hammock as the one we had broke and this is such a good find if you want something light and easy for travel. I put it on my apartment balcony but it’s easy to take off if I need to take it somewhere. I highly recommend if you’ve been looking for something nice, light and portable.

Kayla,

It is a great quality hammock for the price. Lightweight but durable nylon material. The trees straps and carbiners are really nice. Normally at this price point you’d get rope, the straps make a much better fit. I am going to get alot of use out of this, it will be in my Jeep full time for breaks out on the trail!

Ashley Stahl,

My teenage daughter is using this for “hammocking” in the backyard. It’s working great. It’s lightweight, super easy to put up (she did it by herself in 5 minutes), stays in place, super comfortable and secure. It packs away easily into a small bag (attached) and is easy to carry around. Also, it’s pretty. I don’t mind that she leaves it out in the yard for days.
